Lakshmi Energy and Foods Limited
Corporate Overview

Lakshmi Energy and Foods Limited (LEAF) has been the leading manufacturer of non-basmati white rice in India for several years. The Company distributed rice in wholesale, mainly to Food Corporation of India and to traders in 50 kg jute bags.  From early 2008 LEAF has been selling rice and small quantities of wheat flour in retail markets under the brand name 'Lakshmi Foods'. LEAF is also exporting its branded rice, mainly Pusa 1121 variety since May 2009.

LEAF also manufactures rice bran edible oil and cattle feed. Both these products are sold locally. Rice bran edible oil is sold to the oil traders and cattle feed is sold under the brand name “Heera Moti”.

The Company also operates a rice husk fuelled 30 MW power plant since August 2008. The power plant uses the best available technology obtained from Thermax for boiler and Shin Nippon for turbine. All electrical equipments have been sourced from Schneider, Areva and ABB.

We believes in eco-friendliness. Hence we have a power plant based on agri waste. All other plants of the company are highly energy efficient and non polluting. Wherever possible we use jute material for packaging, which is bio-degradable.

LEAF has been growing steadily over the last 5 years. Though it faced difficult situation in the market place during 2008-09, the company expects to return to growth path for the year 2009-10 once again. On global front there is food shortage which will give LEAF an opportunity to do well as selling higher volumes at a good realization will not be difficult in the coming years because the company has already built large manufacturing capacity.

Presently, LEAF has 140 MT per hour paddy processing capacity which is being expanded. The solvent extraction and refinery capacities are also being increased. The company will also put up more capacity in power generation soon.
