Value Chain and Process Flow for typical Parmal rice

Lakshmi Energy and Foods believes in value addition at every step - from procurement to processing. We have integrated plant operations to maintain the high quality standards at low energy costs. Our skill lies in optimum utilization of resources, including utilizing wastes and by-products and continuous qualitative improvement in operations.

Procurement is the lifeline of our business, and being in the breadbasket of India helps. To achieve a competitive advantage, basmati and non-basmati varieties of rice are processed in a natural way at our plant. This results in consistent superior quality. This helps us retain the natural goodness of the products for the daily consumption of the end-users.

The paddy that is procured usually has moisture content up to 18%. However, through constant monitoring and storing under ideal conditions for 12 months, the moisture content is reduced to 13-14%. After shelling, it is sent for polishing. The grains are polished seven times to give them a silky appearance. Subsequently, color sorting takes place where, only uniform color rice grains are retained and the rest discarded. After grading and sorting, the rice is stored in large bins for maturing and ageing. Basmati is matured for one year, under controlled weather conditions.

In our eco-friendly plants, nothing goes waste. All the by-products are further processed to produce value added products like Rice Bran Oil, Cattle Feed, Biomass Power Fuel, etc.

Lakshmi Energy and Foods Ltd. (LEAF) presently produces several rice varieties such as Pusa 1121 basmati, traditional basmati, parmal and variants of all of the above. LEAF today has one of the largest paddy processing capacities in the world. The company has the latest paddy processing plant equipments for which have been imported from Japan Germany, Denmark and US. The Company’s advantage is that it is situated where 60% of the Punjab's paddy is produced. These places are Ludhiana, Sangrur, Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mohali and Roopnagar.

To achieve a competitive advantage, LEAF uses best of the technology and the processes so as to produce highest quality rice retaining its freshness, aroma and length. Once rice is produced it is passed through optical sortex machines for the removal of colored or damaged rice. After that it goes through graders for sorting the rice lengthwise. Eventually rice having purity of over 98% goes into packaging section. Packaging is done in most hygienic atmosphere meeting the stringent international standards so that the bags are temper proof and prevent moisture to enter in it.

Rice is dispatched on regular basis to our customers, dealers and importers and sold to traders. These dispatches happen round the clock in our factory. LEAF supplies parmal rice to Food Corporation of India (FCI), which is the storage and distribution arm of the Government of India. We also directly send the produce to anywhere in the country on the directions of FCI. The packaged varieties of rice are sold by the company under its brand name Lakshmifoods””.

LEAF's solvent extraction plants further process by-product such as rice bran into crystal clear Rice Bran edible oil, DOC / Cattle feed. For refined oil we pass the crude oil through the refinery. The other by-product husk is utilized by the company to generate power in its eco-friendly 30 MW power plant.
